1. How long has it been since you supported Liverpool FC?
Must have been almost 20 years now. However, I will admit that I’ve become more involved and interested in the past 5-6 years.
2. How did you become a Liverpool fan?
This is rather embarrassing. You know when you’re a kid and other kids asks you what football team you support? I didn’t know anything about football back then and the only team I had ever heard of was Liverpool FC because a boy in my favourite (gaah, can’t believe I’m telling you this) boyband was a Liverpool fan. So basically, I had heard about Liverpool while reading the interviews of Gary Barlow. So I told the other kids that I was a big Liverpool fan, knowing only that they wore red shirts and that Gary liked them a lot. And after that it kind of stuck with me: Liverpool was my team and I through the years I started following them and got more and more interested. But it wasn’t until I met (my now ex) boyfriend @adreaswoberg that the interest really blossomed. It was so much fun to have someone to watch the games with and who could tell me more about the game and the players. Today I’m a true Red and nothing makes me happier than to see them win or just meet a random person at the store or the pub and start chatting away about football. I just love the passion and being part of something big – the Liverpool family!
3. Who is your favorite Liverpool legend and why?
I would name Torres and Gerrard. I really admired Torres, because he was amazing at Liverpool and I used to get stunned by his performance. It was very devastating to hear about his decision to leave. I remember sitting in class constantly updating the Liverpool forums page under the table to see if there were any new news about his transfer and almost cried in class when it was confirmed that he was leaving.
Do I even have to say why Gerrard is a legend? Biggest heart of them all, skilled beyond anything I’ve seen in a midfielder and really a true red. And yes, he’s also very handsome: I can’t deny that!
4. Who is your current favorite player in the team?
Jordan Henderson. He has been one of my favourites since he arrived from Sunderland. He’s got the instincts similar to Gerrard: he’s down to earth, works hard and there isn’t any nonsense in his leadership. He’s here to give it his all and he is succeeding. I would also include Coutinho, Can, Lucas and Moreno in my favourites list.
5. Which one player do you suggest the Liverpool board to buy for the next season and why?
With Milner and Clyne deal done, we are now in desperate need of a good striker. Benteke could be a decent option, but I would rather see Javier Hernandez in a Liverpool shirt because of the quality he possesses. But if we could sign Lacazette it would be awesome! Unfortunately, I don’t think he would sign for a club not in the CL. He’s younger than Benteke (better sale value, potentially less prone to injuries), and his playing style suits the Liverpool style as well. It would have been so great to see him playing next to Firmino and Coutinho. But realistically I think we’ll have to settle with Benteke for now.
6. Given the chance to watch Liverpool play at Anfield, which opponent would you choose and why?
Oh, tough one! Last year I got very excited about Liverpool playing against Real Madrid and so as soon as the fixture dates were announced I booked a ticket and went to watch the game alone. Fortunately, I got the chance to meet some wonderful people. However, since we’re not in the UCL this year I would love to see Liverpool at Anfield playing the Merseyside derby or against Manchester United just because of the amazing atmospheres of those games.
7. Your favorite Liverpool match (that you watched live)?
Liverpool vs. Real Madrid last summer. We lost big time, but it still was an amazing experience.
8. Your favorite Liverpool goal?
Oh, there are so many! Suarez scored some magical goals and so did Gerrard. I still remember several of his amazing freekicks. But in recent memory I have to say: Flanno’s first goal vs. Spurs.
The goal in itself wasn’t that spectacular, but the feeling, the celebration of the whole team and management was extraordinary.
9. What’s your expectation for Liverpool next season?
We have made some good signings already and Brendan is dealing well with our main issues. So, I do think we will end up top 4 and of course and fingers crossed, I even expect Liverpool to win the 2015/16 Premier League.
10. What’s the most memorable thing that you have done as a Liverpool fan?
My first visit to Anfield was definitely the most memorable experience of all as a Liverpool FC fan. Seeing the boys walk out on the pitch and the whole stadium standing up to sing You’ll Never Walk Alone was absolutely magical.
11. Your message to other Liverpool fans.
Get behind your team and don’t disrespect the players or the staff. I am sometimes embarrassed by the ignorance and disrespect of certain people aimed at our players and I hate to think of any of them reading the tweets or forum posts. Of course, everyone has the right to criticize and think that they are better than the Liverpool’s chosen manager. But please put some brains into it before you send it out to the world to see.
As Bill Shankly said “If you can’t support us when we draw or lose, don’t support us when we win.”
