ANFIELD FAMILY LIVERPOOL FAN OF THE WEEK: SIMON JONES – ENGLAND
Anfield Family’s quest to feature passionate Liverpool FC fans continues this week too, and this week our Liverpool Fan of the Week is Simon Jones from the UK. He has witnessed the Reds through their biggest glories and their biggest tragedies and is an ardent supporter of over 30 years. Only last week, he was there at Anfield to witness what most Liverpool fans dream of attaining at least once in their lifetime: watching Liverpool Vs Manchester United live, in front of their own eyes. Over to Simon now!
Name: Simon Jones
Interests: Swimming, football
1. How long has it been since you supported Liverpool FC?
I started supporting Liverpool FC in 1985.
2. How did you become a Liverpool fan?
My neighbor at the time kept making me watch the team he loved, and I fell head over heals in love with LFC. It helped that they won every single game they played in those days! But they say, once you have chosen you can’t go back!!
3. Who is your favorite Liverpool legend and why?
I’m not into legends. I appreciate what they have done for the club, but I don’t like to piggy back with the masses. I’m into cult Kop heroes. My current shirt has the name Biscan on it. Igor was described as the Baltic Pele in his first ever programme notes on his debut. Djimi Traoré, the European cup winner is also among my favourite players. If you ever get 5 minutes type in Djimi Traore wonder goal into you tube. What legends both of these guys were!!! Love em.
4. Who is your current favorite player the team?
Simple. Jimmy Milner. Mr 7 out of 10. He’s as consistent as a Jaffa cake
5. Which one player do you suggest the Liverpool board to buy and why?
Jurgen Klopp, in an interview on Monday Night Football, answered this question. He said he would sign David Silva. Who am I to argue with that!
6. Given the chance to watch Liverpool play at Anfield, which opponent would you choose and why?
Manchester United all day long. I get so nervous before this game and my passion always runs at its highest too. I only had a single ticket for this game and drove all the way from Gloucester alone just to witness it. I hate United more than any team on the planet and beating them is better than s*x!
7. Can you recall the most memorable Liverpool FC match that you watched live?
Last year when we beat Dortmund 4-3. I had had a run of games at Anfield whereby every time I attended Anfield we lost. I was sat next to my best mate at the time who had also shared in this run of bad luck that we were having. It was starting to become the but of all jokes among my mates. In fact, all my LFC mates started begging me not to attend any more home games. So when we went 2-0 down against Dortmund, we thought the curse had struck again. When Lovren scored that winner there was no celebration in our seat just the biggest man hug that seemed to last for ages. The curse had been lifted!!.
8. Your favorite Liverpool goal?
Gerrard’s 2003 league cup final:
9. What’s your expectation for Liverpool this season?
Anything is possible, but if we can get top 4, I would be happy.
10. What’s the most memorable thing that you have done as a Liverpool fan?
I once banned all mancs from the sports centre that I worked at.
11. Your message to other Liverpool fans.
It’s happening: believe. Our strength together is that most feared by our greatest enemies.
