Benteke officially signs for Liverpool

Belgian international footballer Christian Benteke has been officially signed by Liverpool FC for a reported fee of £32.5 million from Aston Villa. Benteke passed the team medical yesterday evening after which Liverpool officially unveiled the player.

The deal means that Benteke has also become the most expensive sale in the history of Villa.  The 25-year old striker was a vital part of the Aston Villa team in the recent past, scoring 49 goals in 101 games for the Birmingham-based club. Benteke also becomes the second most expensive signing in Liverpool’s history. In 2011, Andy Carroll signed in for a massive £35 million from Newcastle, which was considered by Liverpool fans to be a failure. The Anfield faithfuls will certainly hope that the player proves otherwise.

Benteke arrived to Aston Villa from Dutch side Genk, where he scored 20 goals in 47 appearances. The player has also scored 7 times in 24 appearances for Belgium. The 6’3″ striker’s muscular presence could well add some dynamic approach in the strike department.

Benteke spoke of his optimism after sealing the deal: “I’m very happy to be here. I came here to win trophies. I came here to reach some great goals with the team.”
“It was the right club for me because I had a good chat with the manager and I wanted to be part of his project.”

Benteke also becomes the third player from Belgium to be signed by the club after Simon Mignolet and Divock Origi, both of whom will serve as his teammates.
