FRANCE 0 – 1 GERMANY
Germany have progressed further into the tournament once again as they claimed victory against France with a single goal.
The game was not as exciting as I had hoped it would be. With both countries having “hat trick heroes” – France’s Karim Benzema and Germany’s Thomas Muller, it could have potentially been a very high scoring game, but it wasn’t to be that way.
The only goal of the game came fairly early on as Raphael Varane was beaten in the air by Matts Hummels who headed in around the 12th minute. France had plenty of time to reply but despite having chances on goal from Valbuena, Benzema and Sakho, the French went in at the half time break still 1-0 down.
The second half was just as frustrating and although Germany didn’t play very defensively intentionally, the Germans would do enough to stop France from scoring before the full whistle had finally blown to secure their win and progress into the World Cup Semi Finals. Germany now must face Brazil in their next game and beat them if they hope to reach the World Cup Final. That will be no easy task as the hosts keep winning, by any means necessary – even penalty shoot outs.
KEY PLAYERS: Karim Benzema played well but could not find the net unfortunately.
Hummels header was very good and his contribution will be remembered as the single goal that got Germany to the World Cup Semi Finals for years to come.

I’m an Englishman (born and raised in Liverpool in the 80s). My whole family including my parents and grandparents were Liverpool fans so I was born into being a red. I’ve seen Liverpool win the league (about 25 years ago) and I’ve been 100% loyal and committed while supporting the Reds through all the good times AND the bad times since the 80s.
I’m a die hard Liverpool fan (only supported ONE club in my whole life, Liverpool) and one of the most dedicated fans you’ll ever meet.
