Karius Officially Unveiled As The New Liverpool No. 1
German U-21 side goalie Loris Karius has become Liverpool first signing since the 2015/16 season finished. A deal worth £4.7m was agreed with Mainz to bring the player to Anfield. The player will soon be completing a medical and will begin his official tenure at the club starting July 1.
Karius had an impressive season while at Mainz in 2015/16, with the goalie keeping 9 clean sheets in 34 league games for his club, helping them to finish sixth in Bundesliga. The player also represented Manchester City in the youth level before his tenure for Mainz.
Talking to Liverpool’s official channel the 22 year old Karius attributed his move to manager Jurgen Klopp:
“It’s a very good feeling and it’s an honor to play for a club like this.
“They have a special history and the fans are amazing here, so I look forward to playing at Anfield.
“I know a lot about the club from watching them on TV. The history, everybody who plays football knows. There a lot of things in my head when I think of this club.
“I spoke to the manager and I had a good feeling afterwards because he told me what he wants to do with the club and with the players.
“It was a good talk with him and after that I was convinced this was the right decision.”
If everything goes through well Karius will be Jurgen Klopp’s third permanent signing for Liverpool FC after Joel Matip and Marco Grujic.
