LIVERPOOL OFFICIALLY ANNOUNCE THE SIGNING OF MATIP
Liverpool fans probably have more reasons to be happy as well as hopeful about the next season, as the club officially announced today that a deal had been agreed with Schalke 04 defender Joel Matip. The Cameroon defender, will be joining the club on a free transfer in the summer.
The club’s official website read
“Liverpool Football Club can confirm they have reached an agreement to sign Cameroon defender Joel Matip.
The 24-year-old will join the Reds in the summer following the conclusion of his current deal with FC Schalke.”
Matip has been known to be versatile defender, who can easily switch to mid-field roles as well. Having made 181 appearances for the club, Matip has scored 17 goals. With Schalke unwilling to let go of the defender in the mid-season, the player was allowed to move out on a free transfer in the next summer by the German club.
Matip will be the second signing under Jurgen Klopp who also signed Marko Grujic in the summer, who was loaned back again to his old club Red Star Belgrade.
