LIVERPOOL VS CHELSEA PREVIEW
Liverpool will play their eleventh match of the English Premier League against one of their biggest rivals in recent history: Chelsea FC. Chelsea haven’t been in the best of forms of late, with only three victories and five losses. Although Liverpool too haven’t played particularly well this season, they are still three points ahead of Chelsea. Yet, with home advantage and recent history in mind, Chelsea will certainly be the favourites, compared to Liverpool.
Chelsea’s defense their weakest point
Liverpool have only managed to score 9 goals this season, while Chelsea have scored 15. Yet, despite being the fifth highest goal-scorers in the Premier League this season, Chelsea also happen to be the fourth most goal conceding team with 19 goals scored against them. This figure clearly indicates that Chelsea has been so far behind in the table because of their defensive weakness. Yet, it will be interesting to see whether the likes of Firmino, Benteke, Coutinho and Lallana be able to exploit this particular vulnerability like several other teams in the league.
Liverpool too can’t let their defense loose
Liverpool’s defense of late appears to be stronger compared to that of Chelsea. Yet, with the presence of Diego Costa, Eden Hazard and Willian, Liverpool’s defense will also be seriously tested. It will also be the biggest test for Jurgen Klopp as a Liverpool manager so far, as they will meet the defending champion for the first time under his reign. It’s possible that Liverpool could indeed settle for another draw as Klopp’s squad is finally starting to play in a more co-ordinated manner.
Recent history on Chelsea’s side
Liverpool haven’t performed too good against Chelsea in recent years. In their last 10 meetings, Chelsea have won 4, while Liverpool have won only 2. Yet, four fixture between the two have also ended in draws. Given Chelsea’s current form and Liverpool’s recent run, a draw could be the most probable result.
