STURRIDGE OUT AGAIN: NEW STRIKER NEEDED!
Well, just when it looked like Daniel Sturridge would be back in the Liverpool squad to combine with Mario Balotelli, the news that no Liverpool fan wanted to here came in! Sturridge is injured again and for the third time this season, he has been diagnosed with a serious injury! The striker, who ended up last year as the second highest striker behind Luis Suarez, is expected to be sidelined for at least six weeks because of a grade two thigh injury.
This now adds even more pressure for the directors at Liverpool to find a good striker to cope with the goal drought in January. With Balotelli, Borini and Lambert failing to make any significant impact to the team, Liverpool is badly in need of a marquee signing, who can find some goals behind the back of the net, several times in a season.
With Liverpool currently staying at 11th place, there even have been heard a few calls from a group of distraught fans to sack Rodgers. Thus the pressure on Rodgers is mounting to create a strategy that could at least see Liverpool salvage some good points from this season. While the Premier League title already looks like a distant dream, the Reds still have a shot at 3 trophies, including the Champions League and FA Cup. But, with the current performance of the squad and increasing injury woes, it’s hard to imagine the Reds winning anything this season or even qualifying for the Champions League next season.
Bolstering the squad with some really good signings, even at the cost of a big transfer fee, looks like the only option that the directors at Liverpool have! Let’s just hope that it will be another Suarez, rather than another Andy Carroll!
