Following last season’s amazing performance that saw Liverpool finish second, well above the fourth place target that Brendon Rodgers had set, we certainly can expect a whole lot of changes to the squad for the upcoming season. While we have already signed two players in Rickie Lambert and Emre Can, we still may need to make a few more transactions to ensure that the squad reaches the Champions League quality.
Last season, Rodgers made some daring sales amidst a few skeptic responses. The sale of Carroll and Downing did increase the transfer fee available to Liverpool. Yet, quite a lot of players, including Fabio Borini, Pepe Reina, Suso and Oussama Assaidi were loaned to other clubs, rather than being sold. But in spite of a relatively modest transfer budget of last season, Rodgers managed to build the strongest Liverpool team that fans have seen in a long while.
While there are a lot of rumors about players entering Liverpool, we have compiled this list of players who might either not longer be associated with Anfield from next season, or might be loaned to other teams.
PEPE REINA: With Mignolet already the number one choice on Rodger’s list, it fairly unlikely that the Spanish goalie is guaranteed a fixed place in the Liverpool first squad. Interests have been reported from Arsenal as well as a few Spanish and Italian clubs.
OUSSAMA ASSAIDI: Having already spent a successful season at Stoke FC, coach Mark Hughes is more than keen to secure the services of the Morroccan midfielder. Interests from other English clubs have also been reported. Offloading the player on a fee above £5 million could indeed prove to be a good transfer boost for Liverpool.
IAGO ASPAS: Having failed to make much impact in the Liverpool squad, the Spaniard doesn’t seem too happy with life at Merseyside. The player climbed through the ranks at Celta Vigo with some impressive performances. But, the absence of regular first team football at Liverpool seems to have encouraged the player to look for other options.
LUIS ALBERTO: The 20-year old certainly seems to have a promising future. But a loan deal for the Spaniard is reportedly being planned at Anfield to ensure that he gets good experience before playing for Liverpool in the future.
DANIEL AGGER: For many Anfield faithfuls, not seeing ‘The Dagger’ in action will indeed be emotional. The Danish captain has consistently managed to give some great performances for Liverpool in the past few seasons. Yet, with Rodgers not willing to guarantee him regular first team football, the Dane is reported to be looking for other avenues. Barcelona are reported to be interested in signing him.
GLEN JOHNSON: With reports that the player has only been offered a 1 year extension on his remaining contract of 1 year, the player is reported to be looking for other avenues. Rodgers is keen to bolster the weak defense that cost Liverpool the title last year and Johnson certainly seems to be out of his regular near-future plans.
CONOR COADY: The player impressed Sheffield United fans with some wonderful displays on field, where he is currently on loan. But its unlikely that he is going to get a call back from Liverpool for next season. It’s reported that the player might be offloaded for a suitable transfer fee.
VICTOR MOSES: The Nigerian isn’t expected to be a part of Anfield as Rodgers certainly doesn’t seem interested in making his loan move permanent.
ALY CISSOKHO: Often touted as one of the weakest links in the Liverpool squad last season, Rodgers certainly isn’t willing to make his contract permanent from PSG.
SUSO: In spite of impressing Liverpool fans, the player might not be a part of the team next season. The player is reported to be wanting regular first team football, which Rodgers certainly can’t guarantee. The player is reported to be generating interest from Porto.
