Liverpool are moving on and on as this season continues to our third Premier League fixture today. We don’t have any new additions that would line up against Arsenal but we sure have been looking around and here’s who we’ve been looking at.

Asier Illaramendi

I’ve spoken about this guy before…  so rather than repeating all the details about him – i’ll just say this: he’s the “new Xabi Alonso” and he could be great for our club.

New details have arisen over reports that Real Madrid have now officially told the player “you’re free to leave for another club”.

Recent fixtures for the Spanish club have seen this player left out of the squad by Rafa Benitez and he is confirmed by Madrid themselves to be surplus to requirements – he’s just not needed in their squad full of superstars. They have enough quality to leave him out and still win their games without him. The interested clubs in him (Liverpool and Arsenal) however, have less superstars and could accommodate Asier into their team with no need to exclude him, offering regular first team football which he would be unlikely to get in Spain. Valued at around £16M, it seems a fair price to get a high quality midfielder that could provide assistance in the heart of Liverpool’s team. Keep your eyes on this player as he is highly likely to be an English Premier League player by the end of this transfer window or perhaps by the new year.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan

Liverpool have had their eyes on this player for a few years now and even had a bid rejected by his club, reportedly because the player himself seemed unwilling to make the move. We were interested in him, but he wasn’t so interested in us. A couple of seasons later and the player is now unsettled at Borussia Dortmund, wanting away from Germany reportedly.
This new event has been proclaimed publically by the player’s agent, Mino Raiola – who said

“Henrikh wants to leave Dortmund at the end of the season. We will have to wait and see what we can do,”.

This verbal indication proves that his client would certainly like a transfer to a new club. Could that club be Liverpool?

Well, we’re still interested but is he interested enough now to make the move to England? We can only hope he wants out of Germany bad enough to accept an offer from us. Valued at £15M, he seems a little overpriced but maybe we can cut a deal with Dortmund and hope he proves his worth upon joining us.  Other than that, all we can do is sit and wait for more progress with this player’s potential transfer.

Marco Verratti

Multiple news reports have been coming in fast recently with excited news about this player and a potential transfer. WHY? Well, mostly because he opened his mouth and said the words “One day, I’d like to play in either England, Spain or Italy”. Seriously, that’s not exactly a “publically spoken desire to leave immediately”. Some reporters will take anything they can get though and as soon as the player had spoken, word of his desire to perhaps be a player in the English Premier League spread about like fire. It’s highly unlikely to happen in this transfer window and maybe not even in the January Transfer Window of 2016, but of course Liverpool have interest in this player. He’s been a valuable asset for Paris Saint Germain since 2012 and the Italian midfielder would be a nice catch for the club if they can persuade him to make the move (as soon as he wants to) but his immediate future seems to be in France, for now. He was also quoted as saying

“You never know what the future brings. I am fine where I am now and I am not thinking about a transfer.

I will consider my options the day I no longer feel good at PSG or when the club wants to sell me but England, Spain and Italy are all options”

So that’s settled then. His last words mean that he certainly won’t be joining a new club any time soon but at least you’re aware of Liverpool’s interest and a potential transfer move in the future being a possibility for this player.

Andriy Yarmolenko

This Ukrainian player has achieved much success in his home country, winning many honours including “Ukrainian footballer of the year” – two years running (2013 and 2014). Basically, there’s no better Ukrainian attackers currently playing than this winger/forward. He’s getting plenty of attention of other clubs such as Tottenham Hotspurs, Everton (and Liverpool) and spoke about a potential move saying:

“I feel the strength and confidence to be able to play in one of the top championships. If I want to play enough in Europe, now is the time to move.

I think that now is the perfect time to change clubs”

Clearly, he hasn’t spoken directly about a single specific club but he seems to want to make a move across Europe and it’s likely that the English Premier League has caught his eye as a potential place to play his football in and he may do so in the near future. Whether that will be for Spurs, Everton or for Liverpool, nobody can say and only the player will decide that soon. There it is, though. At least we know we’re an option that he’s considering.

That’ll be all the transfer news for now. More next week. Walk on with hope in your hearts, Anfield Family. You’ll Never Walk Alone.

I’m an Englishman (born and raised in Liverpool in the 80s). My whole family including my parents and grandparents were Liverpool fans so I was born into being a red.

I’ve seen Liverpool win the league (about 25 years ago) and I’ve been 100% loyal and committed while supporting the Reds through all the good times AND the bad times since the 80s.
