Who are the Liverpool FC players going to Brazil for the World Cup?
With the incredible and memorable 2013-2014 season over, football fans all around the world are readying up for the FIFA World Cup 2014. A number of Liverpool FC players will be representing different nations this time. The England team will be graced by 6 Liverpool players. Here is a list of all Liverpool players who have been called to represent their nations at Brazil.
1. Steven Gerrard (England)
The Liverpool Skipper will also be leading the England camp at the World Cup. It’s predicted that this will be the last World Cup that Gerrard will appear in, following rumors that he will announce his retirement from the England squad after this campaign.
2. Daniel Sturridge (England)
The striker will be expected to continue his superb form from last season, which saw him become the Premier League’s second highest scorer after teammate Luis Suarez. England fans would certainly love to see him ‘do the Sturridge’.
3. Raheem Sterling (England)
Despite not even crossing 20, the Liverpool winger has already earned a well-deserved place in the England squad. It’s expected that Sterling will play an important role in the England squad for years to come.
4. Jordan Henderson (England)
Showing tremendous improvement since the last couple of years, Henderson has firmly established himself as an important part of Brendan Rodger’s Liverpool squad. England’s performance at the World Cup will depend much upon the midfielder’s skill and pace.
5. Glen Johnson (England)
Glen Johnson has been a regular feature in the England squad for the last few years. His pace and skills will be very much needed in the England squad, which is perhaps in the toughest group in the World Cup that also features Italy and Uruguay.
6. Joe Flanagan (England)
With some impressive performance for Liverpool, Flanagan has been called by Hodgson for training in Portugal. It’s expected that the defender does have some chance of featuring in the World Cup. But with competition from some impressive players in the England squad, Flanagan’s place is far from certain.
7. Simon Mignolet (Belgium)
Liverpool’s stopper will be going to the World Cup with a strong Belgium team that is expected to be a giant killer. But with competition from Athletico Madrid stopper Thibaut Courtois, fans may not be able to see him feature in the first team.
8. Pepe Reina (Spain)
While the chances of Reina coming back to Liverpool from Napoli (where he is on loan) is probably very low, fans will certainly be following the stopper’s performance at the World Cup. But it will be a tough challenge for him to be featured in the defending champion’s first squad that also will feature Iker Casillas and David De Gea.
9. Luis Suarez (Uruguay)
The Premier League’s top scorer has been named in the Uruguay national squad. But according to latest reports, injury to his knees may force him out of the World Cup. News of his absence may come as a disappointing news for football fans throughout the world, who had been expecting his brilliant display for Liverpool to continue with Uruguay at the World Cup.
10. Sebastian Coates (Uruguay)
The Uruguayan defender hasn’t particularly managed to impress the Anfield loyals. But, Coates has been serving as an important part of the Uruguayan defense for the last few years.
11. Kolo Toure (Ivory Coast)
The Liverpool defender will be playing an important part in the Ivory Coast squad, which hosts some impressive talents including his brother Yaya.
12. Mamadou Sakho (France)
The Liverpool defender played a key role in the qualification of the French squad at the World Cup. Sakho is expected to play a big role in his country’s World Cup campaign.
